As part of its ongoing efforts to support economic recovery and improve livelihoods, the Recovery of Economic Activity for Liberian Informal Sector Employment (REALISE) Project has turned over essential tools to several communities in Montserrado and Margibi Counties. This initiative is part of the third round of implementation under the Project’s Labor-Intensive Public Works (LIPW) Component.
The tools handed over include shovels, wheelbarrows, hoes, diggers, cutlasses, and rain gear, among other items. These materials are intended to empower community leadership and residents to carry out regular cleanup activities, enhance sanitation, and maintain public spaces in their respective areas.
The Labor-Intensive Public Works Component focuses on providing temporary employment opportunities to vulnerable populations, particularly those working in the informal sector, by engaging them in infrastructure and environmental improvement projects. Through this approach, REALISE not only helps address unemployment but also promotes community ownership and participation in local development.
The donated tools are expected to support ongoing maintenance efforts in communities that have already benefited from LIPW employment activities, ensuring the sustainability of the work already completed during the third implementation round.
Funded by the World Bank and implemented by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE), the REALISE Project aims to mitigate the socio-economic impacts of shocks such as the COVID-19 pandemic by targeting vulnerable individuals and communities across Liberia’s urban and peri-urban areas.
