The Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE) recently highlighted its commitment to community development during a working visit to several project sites across Nimba County. The visit, led by Executive Director Mr. Julius K. Sele, focused on inspecting and assessing progress on multiple infrastructure initiatives spanning health, education, and economic empowerment.
Sekimpa Hospital Construction
One of the flagship projects inspected was the construction of the Sekimpa Hospital, a major healthcare facility funded by ArcelorMittal and implemented through LACE. The project, currently underway by the BMC Group, includes six main structures: a Surgery Department, Laboratory, Medical Pediatric Unit, Male and Female Wards, Laundry Facility, and an Administrative Building.
During the visit, LACE and key stakeholders—including the County Health Team, ArcelorMittal representatives, and the contractor—conducted a joint site tour. Technical suggestions were made to enhance the hospital’s design and functionality, all of which the contractor committed to address promptly. The project aims to significantly improve healthcare delivery in the region.
Nimba County University Classroom Annex
In response to overcrowding at the Nimba County University, LACE is overseeing the construction of a 10-classroom annex funded by the Office of the Vice President, H.E. Jeremiah Kpan Koon. The new facility will eliminate the need for students to hold classes outside campus premises and demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing urgent educational infrastructure needs.
Mini-Market Facilities in Whipa and Buzzee
As part of the Legislative Support Project, LACE recently completed the construction of mini-market facilities in Whipa and Buzzee. Funded through the office of Senator Nyeh Flomo, these markets are designed to strengthen local economies by improving access to goods and services and creating a more structured environment for community trade.
Dukpuyee Public School Project
LACE also visited the Dukpuyee Public School, another education-focused initiative funded by the Office of the Vice President. This project aims to expand educational access for children in the township and surrounding communities, further reinforcing LACE’s role in supporting inclusive learning environments across Liberia.
These development initiatives underscore LACE’s continued leadership in driving community transformation through health, education, and economic infrastructure. The agency remains committed to ensuring high standards and timely implementation across all its projects, with a collaborative approach that engages both government and community stakeholders.
