“I am grateful that REALISE project came. My business is now back and getting expanded”. Varbah Beyan sells retail used clothes in Paynesville a suburb of the Liberian Capital Monrovia, and a beneficiary of the Small Business Support component of the REALISE Project.
In early 2023, she was among several residents in the GSA road community selected during an open lottery process intended to select beneficiaries of the project.
“I was lucky to have been selected because I had no previous information on the project, but I took advantage of the information I got on the spot and immediately went on to participate”.
After her selection, Varbah went on to receive the first segment of the payment and bought additional goods to increase her business size. According to her “I received the second payment and bought rubber dishes to diversify my business”. Now she sells both used clothes and rubber dishes.
Like Varbah, Amelia David sells frozen food in her community. Prior to the grant, there was nothing to save, but only survive on the daily profit she accrued, according to her. Now Amelia has a saving. “I never had sufficient money to save before I receive the grant. But now I can save portion of my daily profit after sales. I am grateful to the REALISE Project for the assistance”.

Component of the REALISE project is to support 4,450 small businesses in greater Monrovia and urban Margibi County.
