Several beneficiaries of the REALISE Project’s Unconditional Cash Transfer component in Grand Bassa County are expressing heartfelt gratitude for what they describe as “life-changing support”.
The REALISE Project, funded by the World Bank and the French Development Agency, aims to improve livelihoods and create economic opportunities for vulnerable Liberians, particularly those in rural communities and the informal sector. Through its Unconditional Cash Transfer program, beneficiaries receive direct financial support to help them improve consumption and take care of other households.
In Juahn Town, one of the participating communities in Grand Bassa County, Musu Diggs says the intervention came at a time when she had lost hope.
“Before the Cash Transfer Program, I had nothing doing,” Musu explained. “But when I received the money, I was able to build my own house and start a small business. Today, I am earning income and taking care of my family.”
Musu used her transfer to invest in petty trading, gradually growing her capital and stabilizing her household. She says the project has restored her confidence and given her a renewed sense of independence.
Similarly, in Frazier Town, another beneficiary, Fatu, has become widely known in her community as a reliable meat and fish seller. Having received five rounds of transfers, she carefully invested each payment into her business.
“I started my business when I received the money,” Fatu said proudly. “It has greatly improved my life and the lives of my children.”
With increased capital, Fatu expanded her stock, improved her home, and ensured her children remain in school. Community members say her business is now one of the most active in the area, serving as an example of how small investments can yield significant impact.
Local leaders in Grand Bassa County have praised the REALISE Project for empowering women and vulnerable households, noting that the Unconditional Cash Transfer component is not only boosting household incomes but also stimulating economic activities within local markets.
For many beneficiaries like Musu and Fatu, the support goes beyond financial assistance—it represents opportunity, dignity, and hope for a more secure future.
