Alessandra Heinemann Takes over as World Bank’s Task Team Leader of REALISE Project

Monrovia, Liberia — Alessandra Heinemann, a Senior Social Protection Specialist with the World Bank’s West and Central Africa region, has recently assumed the position of Task Team Leader (TTL) for the Recovery of Economic Activity for Liberian Informal Sector Employment (REALISE) Project. In her new role, Heinemann will guide the strategic direction and implementation of this key social protection initiative aimed at expanding economic opportunities, livelihood support, and income-earning prospects for vulnerable Liberians working in the informal sector.

Heinemann brings extensive experience to the project, having focused on social protection, economic inclusion, and gender equality in her work across multiple countries and development programs. Her leadership is expected to strengthen the REALISE Project’s efforts to deliver meaningful and sustainable support to thousands of households through components such as small business grants, temporary employment support, community livelihood and agriculture support, and cash transfers.

She succeeds Mack C. Mulbah, who served as the World Bank’s Task Team Leader for the REALISE Project during critical phases of its implementation. Under Mulbah’s tenure, the project made notable progress in rolling out activities, supporting the government and beneficiaries, and maintaining momentum through technical missions and midterm reviews.

Mulbah’s departure marks the end of an important chapter in the project’s lifecycle and opens the way for Heinemann to build on this foundation and drive the initiative into its next phase.

As the REALISE Project continues to evolve, stakeholders remain hopeful that Heinemann’s leadership will further enhance the project’s impact across Liberia’s communities, particularly among informal workers, youth, and other vulnerable populations.

Alessandra Heinemann holds an MSc in Political Economy from the London School of Economics and an Executive MBA from INSEAD.
