Rock Crusher Village, Bong County — For years, Nyamah Kerkulah struggled to make ends meet, relying on irregular daily labor to support herself and her family. Living in Rock Crusher Village in Bong County, limited access to skills training and livelihood opportunities kept her trapped in a cycle of uncertainty. Today, her story is one of resilience and renewed hope, thanks to the Community Livelihoods and Agriculture Support (CLAS) component of the REALISE Project.
Nyamah is one of the beneficiaries of the REALISE Project’s CLAS intervention, which is designed to empower vulnerable households through skills development, income-generating activities, and community-based support. Through the project, she received training and labor subsidy of $350.00 for working on a communal farm owned by a group of 28 selected beneficiaries. This provides her with a steady source of income for the first time.
“Before the REALISE Project came to our community, life was very hard for me,” Nyamah shared during a beneficiary engagement session. “I had the will to work, but I did not have the support. Now, I can do something meaningful to help my family.”
According to Nyamah, the subsidy she received under the CLAS component improved her built her confidence and sense of independence. With her new livelihood activity, she is now able to contribute to household expenses, support her children, and plan with optimism.
Community members in Rock Crusher Village have also acknowledged the positive changes brought about by the REALISE Project. Beneficiaries like Nyamah are becoming role models, demonstrating how targeted support can transform lives and strengthen community resilience.
The REALISE Project continues to implement the CLAS component across several counties, with a focus on reaching women, youth, and vulnerable populations. By combining skills training, productive asset support, and community engagement, the project aims to promote economic inclusion and reduce poverty at the household level.
For Nyamah Kerkulah, the impact is deeply personal. “This project has given me hope,” she said. “I feel proud of myself, and I believe that with what I have learned, my life will continue to improve.”
Her testimony stands as a powerful example of how the REALISE Project is translating development support into real opportunities for Liberia’s most vulnerable communities.
