5,000 people Benefit Temporary Jobs in Montserrado and Margibi Counties

Monrovia – June 8, 2025 – In a significant stride toward community development and empowerment, the REALISE Project last week launched the third round of subprojects under its Labor-Intensive Public Works Component. These initiatives are being implemented across 50 communities in Montserrado and Margibi Counties, providing temporary employment for 5,000 individuals.

The subprojects—ranging from street naming and home coding to waste management and sanitation—are part of the REALISE Project’s broader mission to enhance living conditions, promote skills development, and stimulate local economic opportunities. The commissioning ceremony brought together community leaders, government officials, and residents in a unified celebration of this milestone.

Addressing project beneficiaries, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, J. Bryant McGill, emphasized the crucial role of community empowerment in national development:
“We must empower our people to foster national growth—an initiative the President considers a top priority.”
He further noted that this approach is in line with the REALISE Project’s core objective: “to transform lives by nurturing leadership, ownership, and resilience at the community level.”

Also speaking at the event, Montserrado District #3 Representative Sumo Mulbah pledged ongoing support for the sanitation aspects of the initiative:
“I will remain engaged with you even after the REALISE Project concludes, particularly in the area of sanitation, because maintaining clean communities is our shared responsibility.”

The primary beneficiaries of these subprojects include youth, women, and marginalized groups, who not only gained temporary employment but also received labor subsidies and materials necessary for the work.

As Liberia continues to face economic and social challenges, the REALISE Project serves as a beacon of inclusive and participatory development—demonstrating that when communities are empowered and resources are effectively targeted, sustainable progress is achievable.
