REALISE Project Trains Service Providers in Climate Smart Agriculture

Sanniquellie, Nimba County, Liberia – May 29, 2025, The REALISE Project is training service providers in Climate Smart Agriculture, which will follow the replication of the training to beneficiaries of the Community Livelihood and Agriculture Support (CLAS) component of the Project.

Liberia’s agricultural sector remains vulnerable to climate change, with erratic rainfall patterns, prolonged dry spells, and increasing pest outbreaks posing serious threats to food security. In response, the REALISE Project has prioritized CSA as a cornerstone of its strategy to support it beneficiary farming groups.

Climate Smart Agriculture aims to increase agricultural productivity sustainably, enhance farmers’ resilience to climate variability, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions where possible. It is a holistic approach that includes improved farming techniques, soil and water management, agroforestry, and the adoption of climate-resilient crops.

Linking to the CLAS Component

Following the training of service providers, the REALISE Project will begin rolling out these CSA practices to the broader beneficiary communities under the Community Livelihood and Agriculture Support (CLAS) component. Through this extension, hundreds of rural residents will gain access to practical, climate-resilient farming techniques that can transform their productivity and income levels.

The CLAS component also supports the provision of starter, seeds, and inputs. Coupled with CSA knowledge, these resources are expected to yield immediate and long-term benefits for farming households.

Beneficiaries

Eric Saydee, one of the service providers in training, expressed optimism:
“This training has opened my eyes to the impact of climate on our farming. We used to farm without thinking of the future. Now, I can help my community plan better, plant better, and harvest more.”

The National Social Protection Coordinator Aurelius Butler also lauded the enthusiasm and engagement of participants, emphasizing the importance of local ownership in driving real impact.

The training is facilitated by Ignitia, a Swedish based weather and climate intelligence company operating across Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. The compnay delivers hyper-local, high-accuracy forecasts and climate risk insights through channels like SMS, WhatsApp, and APIs.

Ignitia provides real-time extreme weather alerts, daily forecasts and advisory and seasonal forecasts to support data-driven decision making for farmers.
